Carbon Footprint
Building Life Cycle
Assessment
Every building has a carbon emission.
We measure it from the first brick to the last.
From Quarry to Demolition
We Measure Every Gram of Carbon
Every material you specify, every structural system you choose, every construction sequence you approve — carries a carbon consequence. Axosomatic CarbonLCA quantifies it before it is built, so you can change and reduce your building's carbon footprint.
Axosomatic CarbonLCA
CarbonLCA is Axosomatic's web-based carbon intelligence monitoring system for the built environment. It calculates and visualizes the full carbon footprint of a building across all four life cycle stages — from material extraction and construction through operation, maintenance, and demolition — at every stage of the design and construction process.
A building's carbon footprint spans four distinct life cycle stages — from the first material extracted to the last load of demolition waste. Each stage carries its own carbon consequence and its own reduction opportunity. Together, they tell the complete carbon story of a building.
Stage A - Product & Construction
Stage A quantifies the carbon emissions across five sub-stages, raw material extraction (A1), transport to manufacturer (A2), manufacturing (A3), transport to site (A4), and construction site activities (A5). Axosomatic CarbonLCA calculates the full A1–A5 carbon footprint at sub-stage resolution using EN 15978, project-specific material quantities, and EPD-sourced emission factors.
Stage B - Use Phase (B1–B7)
Stage B estimates the carbon emissions during the building's operational lifetime across seven sub-stages: in-use material emissions (B1), maintenance (B2), repair (B3), component replacement (B4), refurbishment (B5), operational energy (B6), and operational water (B7). Axosomatic CarbonLCA projects, using AI prediction, the full B1–B7 carbon footprint over the building lifespan using EN 15978 methodology, climate-adjusted EUI benchmarks, and grid decarbonization trajectories.
ESG Integration
Stage C quantifies the carbon emissions generated at the end of the building's operational life across four sub-stages — deconstruction and demolition (C1), transport of demolition waste (C2), waste processing and sorting (C3), and disposal to landfill (C4). Axosomatic CarbonLCA estimates, using AI prediction, the full C1–C4 carbon footprint using EN 15978 benchmark factors applied to the building's project-specific material quantities
Stage D - Beyond System Boundary
Stage D quantifies the carbon credits recovered beyond the building's system boundary through material recycling, energy recovery, and structural element reuse following end-of-life deconstruction. Axosomatic CarbonLCA estimates Stage D credits from the building's project-specific material composition and reports whole-life carbon both with and without Module D in full compliance with EN 15978 disclosure requirements.
The Building Carbon Footprint
Axosomatic CarbonLCA delivers the Building Carbon Footprint Report — covering all four EN 15978 stages from construction to demolition, expressed in kgCO₂e/m² GIA and benchmarked against the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge 1.5°C carbon budget, using sophisticated AI prediction methods. The report supports project-level carbon reduction decisions and scales to city-level carbon footprint planning and emissions reduction strategies and meets all national and international green building requirements.
